Introduction of First Mount

On the south band of Huaishui, First Mount, originally named Nanshan Mount, is also called Duliang for its abundant output of Duliang vanilla, which is also known as Xu Yi, the ancient county. In 1097, the famous painter Mi Fu went to his post along the Bianshui River from Bianjing (today Kaifeng city), the capital of Song dynasty. When he entered, seeing the gorgeous Nanshan Mount, he involuntarily makes a poem: "Travel for a long distance, The boat bows out the good sights, Whatever the time changes, The First Mount always exists." He then wrote down the words of first Mount. Hereby, the Nanshan Mount changed its name into First Mount.

 

Wu Cheng'en, the famous writer in the Ming Dynasty, had wonderful descriptions on the beauty of first mount in his book named "Journey to the West": "On the Peak there are platform, in the mountain there are rivers and springs flowing with peculiar stones and grand pines. The nice scenic Spots including Ruiyan temple, Donyue temple, Wuxian temple, Dragon mount temple, Bell and smoke sight, Glass Spring, Five tower valley, Baxian platform and Apricot garden are attractive and pretty. The cloud even stay and the birds linger. The five great mountains are incomparable to this mountain that is of great wonder." He compared the mountain as the island of wonder. Yang Wanli, the poet in southern Song Dynasty said: "There will be great pity if you have no chance to visit the First Mount."

 

Since 1049, the First Mount has become a provincial level key place to be protected and many culture relics has been gradually restored such as Glass Spring, Apricot Garden, Kuixing Kiosk, Stele of First Mount. There are 172 pieces of inscriptions. In the census of 1986, there are 88 pieces. From the Song and Yuan dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there are different styles of calligraphy including Zheng, Cao, Li and Zhuan, and also there are various styles of uritings such as Poetry, Ci, Ti and Records. All the stones are like the paper for writing. In the 1980s, it turned into part. In 1996, it was classified as a national forest park.
